Italian food has, over the years, become part and parcel of every Cairene’s eating habits. One reason is that there’s no shortage of Italian restaurants or restaurants serving Italian dishes in Cairo. More significantly, however, Italians and Egyptians share much of the same gastronomical staples, sharing a love for pastas and breads, for example.

But it’s this shared love that has come to muddy the authenticity of Italian food in Egypt’s capital; many restaurant water the cuisine down to suit the perceived local tastes – and that’s what separates the 2017 Cairo 360 Editors’ Choice Awards in the Italian Cuisine category – which also includes the special Authentic Pizzeria Award – from the rest. It’s the staunch commitment to keeping this world-weary cuisine, authentic and true to its roots. Congratulations tothe winners!

Il Divino Pizzeria (Authentic Pizzeria Award)

One of the very few places that offer pizza the way it actually should be; thin and heavy on the sauce and cheese. Fun Fact: at Cairo 360, we celebrate employee birthdays by treating the office to 10-12 pizzas from Il Divino. We even sing around the pizzas. True story.

3al 7atab (Authentic Pizzeria Award)

Despite having other flavoursome items on the menu, including a variety of pastas, sandwiches, soups and salads, 3al 7atab, in Maadi, holds pizza lovers around Cairo in awe by its delicious authentic pizza, which is made with fresh ingredients and lots and lots of love.

Olivo (Authentic Pizzeria Award)

Located at the New President Hotel on Taha Hussein Street, Olivo is a near-perfect stop for enjoying an authentic pizza while sipping on a glass of wine in a quiet, secluded ambiance.

Bella

Wrapping authentic Italian dishes in a high-end dining experience, Four Seasons Nile Plaza’s Bella is counted among the few places that truly reflect the spirit of the Italian cuisine; fresh ingredients in conceptually simple dishes with a less-is-more touch of seasoning.

Eish & Malh

Eish & Malh brings the best of two worlds, to form one unique, sophisticated dining experience; fresh, authentic dishes from Italy and a setting that blends in well with the fast-paced urban vibes of Downtown Cairo.

La Trattoria

Comprising a European ambiance that is mature, simple and classy, La Trattoria’s low-key existence is no reflection on its quality. With a concise menu that touches on all kinds of Italian classics, there are few better Italian restaurants in town, let alone in Zamalek.

Pane Vino

Garden City’s Intercontinental Semiramis is known for having some of the best restaurants in Cairo, and one of them happens to be Pane Vino; not only is it famous for its unique setting that oversees The Nile, but it’s also renowned for offering a variety of dishes that perfectly captures the essence of the Italian Cuisine.

STRADA

Four Seasons First Residence’s Italian restaurant, STRADA, delivers exactly what one expects, nay, demands from an international hotel chain; a wide variety of excellently-executed Italian delights served in a lofty urban-Tuscan setting with a killer Nile view
