Cairo has never been short of bakery shops; in fact, nearly every area has a couple of stores that offer something to suit all tastes and budgets. However, now and then, one craves a deviation from the good ol’ baladi bread or the usual goodies that are found in every supermarket. So here’s a list of places in Cairo that offer you the upgrade that your breadbasket needs:

Ratios Bakery:

Maadi’s bakery shop offers a broad spectrum baked goodies; from a range of brown and white sourdough bread to a selection of desserts that include muffins, cookies, cinnamon buns, and waffles. If you live in Maadi, visit the store on Canal street, or you can have your freshly baked goods delivered to your doorstep in various areas of Cairo by sending a Whatsapp message to 01001040200. Check their Facebook page.

Madeleine Egypt:

You can find some of their French cakes and pastries at Ratios Bakery on Street 11. Now and then, Madeleine Egypt graces the Facebook feed with their latest dessert menus that you can order online. You can place your order through a private message on Facebook, every week before Tuesday. Madeleine is currently on a summer break, but it will be back soon.

Leaven:

The Italian-run brand offers a long list of bread and pastries that are available for you to purchase at Maadi’s Community Services Association, in addition to many other seasonal markets that take place across the city. The brand also pairs its various baked products with a host of cheeses, courtesy of Chef Carlo Giovanni.

La Ronde des Pains:

La Ronde des Pains, or what you used to be called Viennoiseries Maison, offers a host of homemade goodies, by Christophe Thomas, who provides a variety of baguettes, croissants, muffins, and more. La Ronde des Pains delivers only in Maadi, and all you need to do is send a WhatsApp message to 01027654670.

Paul:

Known for being one of the best French pastry shops in town; if you catch yourself craving a luscious piece of gateaux or a fluffy croissant, look no further than Paul. You can order through Otlob and El Menus, or you can call on 01123477773 (Downtown), 01146445433 (Mohandiseen), or 01123191111 (Korba).

Sea Salt Bakery:

Sea Salt Bakery offers a wide range of gluten, sugar, and dairy-free bread and bakes; from sourdough loaves and baguettes to burger buns and crackers. You can order through Otlob, El Menus, and Uber Eats, or you can call on 01093757305. Check the menu here.

Eddy’s Kitchen:

A jack of all trades; Eddy’s Kitchen has an eclectic menu of bakery and pastry; from sourdough loaves, crackers, and breadsticks, to croissants, macarons, cakes, and more. All this is in addition to its wide selection of ready to heat culinary options. You can order through Eddy’s Kitchen Website.

Ovio:

Besides having some of the best pancakes in town, Ovio also has an extensive selection of pastries on offer that you order 48 hours in advance through their website, or you can head to Ovio and select from the available items in store.
