As there’s a long weekend coming up, you should take an extra day off to spend four days in Alexandria. This magical city has undergone significant changes in the last few years, but with both old and new sights, it remains the crown of the Mediterranean cities in Egypt. Here’s a guide to a four-day trip that offers the perfect blend of classic and modern Alexandria.

Accommodation and Transportation

If you’re willing to let go of some luxuries, you can find decent accommodation. There are several three-star hotels with beach views that range between EGP 1,050 and 2,000 per night, depending on the room type. It’s important to note that some of these hotels only allow accommodation for families. As for transportation, the ticket for the VIP second-class train from Cairo to Alexandria is EGP 140 per adult.

Day 1: Adventures through Foods & Culture

If you decide to take the 9:00 am train, it arrives at Alexandria Station around 11:30 am. By the time you check in and settle into your hotel, it will be around 1 pm, which gives you plenty of time to make use of the day. Our first stop of the day is the Royal Jewellery Museum. It is a symbol of the truly classical Alexandria, where you will not only see pieces of jewellery that are absolute art, but also the beautiful European architecture. That place will transport you into a different era, offering a glimpse into the lives of royalty.

After that amazing tour and the long day travelling, having a delicious dinner is the perfect refreshment before spending the evening by the seaside. El Wahsh Burger has recently opened its first branch in Alexandria, specifically at El Raml Station. They offer a wide variety of beef and chicken burgers, but the Creamy Mushroom burger is the most recommended.

Day 2: Chill & Shop

The next day could be an excellent time for a chill day spent on the seaside. Many places on the coast include cafes and restaurants with a splendid view of the sea. Whatever kind of food or drink you’re craving, you will surely find it there. Whether you’re there with family or friends, it’d be a great way to spend time together or even study or work if you need to.

After relaxing all day, you might want to do some shopping. For that, Khaled Ibn Al Waleed Street is filled with all kinds of stores, and almost anything you could want. If you love Nozha or Abbas El Akad’s hauls in Cairo, you’re sure to love Khaled Ibn Al Waleed’s hauls in Alexandria.

Day 3: Never Miss Out on the Classics

This is a big touristy day. We’re starting the day with the famous red double-decker bus for a summery ride along the shore. Reaching the end of the bus line, you’ll be near the Citadel of Qaitbay. This majestic citadel will take you to another era in the history of Alexandria. A time of battles, cunning, and outsmarting your enemies. It’s also on the edge of the city, and the view from there is the open sea.

In the same area, there is the Aquarium Museum in Alexandria, where you can explore marine life without having to dive. You’ll see fish and other sea creatures like never before.

Climbing up and down the stairs at the citadel and walking around the aquarium might leave you needing a refreshment, especially in summer, and what better refreshment to have than Ice Cream Azza, which is within walking distance from both places. After chilling the rest of the day on the seaside, it’s time for another food landmark of Alexandria, Kebda Awlad El Falah. This authentic experience and the best kebda in Egypt are not to be missed.

Day 4: One Last Alexandrian Hurrah

If your train is a little later in the day, then you can squeeze in one last hurrah. Pablo, a restaurant with a view of Stanley Bridge and the sea, offers a wide variety of menu options. Catching one of their breakfast packages there could be a perfect end to your trip. Their iced Spanish latte, served with a side of brownie bites, puts you in an excellent mood before catching your train home.

Alexandria has so much to offer. From cultural and historical places to spots to chill and let the sea view wash away your stress. Would you enjoy such a programme? And which of these stops do you think you’ll enjoy the most?
