The North Coast generally entails a lot of relaxing and letting go of our worries from daily life. All we want to do is chill by the Mediterranean shore and be lazy. But would a trip to the coastline really be fulfilled without engaging in water-based sports at least once? We tend to associate these activities with the Red Sea, between windsurfing, banana boats, kitesurfing, and kayaking; we don’t generally think of the Mediterranean for these types of activities. If you’re the kind of person who enjoys them, though, here are some ways to spice up your Sahel trip this year.

For those who think there are no water activities available in Sahel, and lament that, worry not, for they do indeed exist! Some resorts on the North Coast offer activities like banana boats, jet skiing, crazy sofas (the curved sofa towed by a motorboat whose name we can never seem to remember), and even parasailing. If this is something you’re looking forward to doing this summer, then you should check out Splash Beach in Ghazala Bay, Bobos in Marina 7 and Rixos Al Alamein, and Sun ‘N Fun in Almaza Bay. Their facilities also have the infamous jetovator, which redirects the water from the jet unit to propel you into the air – which is a fancy way of saying that it’s the thing that makes you fly over the water.

Another extremely fun way to take full advantage of your time by the sea is kayaking and canoeing. If you’re one of the lucky ones who own a kayak or a canoe, we hope you make good use of it, as it’s an amazing way to stay in touch with nature and bond with your friends, on top of being loads of fun. But for those who don’t own one, there are places where you can go for a ride, including AquaWorld in Sidi Heneish. Other locations include Nile Kayak Club, which is available at Fouka Bay, and Al Alamein Hotel in Marassi also offers the option of canoeing.

It feels crazy that surfing is not much of a popular activity among Egyptians. Maybe this is due to the fact that the waves are not high enough for surfing in the Red Sea, and people forget about the option on the North Coast. However, this is a huge shame because some places on the Mediterranean shore are ideal for surfing. Surf Camp Egypt is a local surfing association which brought surfing to the country. Having started off as a small community in Agamy, they brought the sport over to Hacienda Red and Hacienda White.
