Netflix just announced its first original Egyptian drama series, which has drawn much anticipation for its big budget and acclaimed creative team. They’re turning dreams into reality by giving life to the best-selling book series; the classic Ma Wara2 el Tabe3a (loosely translates to ‘What Lies Behind Nature’). The book series, originally written by late Egyptian author Ahmed Khaled Tawfik (Tawfik passed away in April 2018), is set in the 1960s and is packed with mystery and suspense.

The series is titled Paranormal, and will be produced by Mohamed Hefzy and Amr Salama, who have collaborated before in the 2017 award-winning movie, Sheikh Jackson, which saw major local and international success. This series will be the first Egyptian work for Netflix, and the third in the Arab world. After the series “Jinn” and “Al Rawabi School for Girls” that was announced by the company last April. For now, we aren’t sure who is set to star in the series, but we will keep you posted with updates on cast members as soon as we have them.

We can’t wait to see how Netflix transforms this thrilling and best-selling book series into watchable episodes. We also hope that this series does not suffer the same fate as other visual artworks that are based on novels, with the novels almost always being better. Moreover, since the books were written by the brilliant, late, literary mastermind Ahmed Khaled Tawfik, we hope this series does a good job at paying homage to a truly and magnificently talented modern author.

Make sure, of course, that you check out our TV Review section, as we promise you we will be the first to review this series, once it is released.
