Showcasing Mamluk Legitimacy, the Royal Image of Sultan Qalāwūn’ Lecture at Netherlands-Flemish Institute
Professor Willem Flinterman will present his ideas with reference to the Arab Spring as an uprising against a “neo-Mamluk” form of governance. He will discuss the events of 2011 as a reaction against military regimes rather than dynastic ones, and consider the implications this has for the Egyptian Revolution and its legacy.
