‘This Is Not Graffiti’ Exhibition at Townhouse Gallery of Contemporary Art

This is Not Graffiti is a group exhibition at the Townhouse Factory Space that explores the concept of taking a raw art form tailored
in the public terrain and relocating its making into a private space. The exhibition features the work of nine graffiti artists:
Keizer, Sad Panda, El Teneen, Hend Kheera, Hany
Khaled, Charles Akl and Amr Gamal, Adham Bakry and Dokhan.

For most
of the participating artists, this is their first time working indoors, thus
providing an environment stripped of the streets’ unpredictable
characteristics. How they will respond to or ignore this factor should be clear
in the finished work. Will the exhibition contribute to the
ongoing debate that has surrounded the production and power of graffiti? Can it
still be regarded as graffiti when it is removed from the street?

The exhibition will open on September 18th at 7PM, and will feature a screening of a short film by Karim Abada.
