Coming from an Eastern background rich in complexities, contradictions, and stunning natural landscapes, Ziad Rahbani understood that love, like his background, can be complicated yet so beautifully simple. He sang about a love that was revolutionary only because it was love that didn’t ask for much.

And when he didn’t say the exact words, he composed them with his instruments, creating melodies that tell stories without a single word, that flow beautifully and transition smoothly. His melodies have always been profound and simple; they don’t demand much attention, yet effortlessly capture it. Listeners are always left wanting more, unable to find anything that comes close to it.

He was a distinct, genuine person, and so was his work. As devastating as it was for him to leave our world, we will forever find solace and consolation in what he left us with, a time-transcending music and theatre legacy that will never age.
