Since its creation almost 25 years ago, Cold Stone finally came to the 6th of October in the summer of 2012. Expanding over the capital, we visited their most recently opened store in Heliopolis’ Sun City Mall. Occupying a shop on the second floor, Cold Stone Creamery brings a dash of distinctiveness to the mall’s extensive repertoire of generic food chains.

Famous for its diverse range of ice-cream mixtures, Cold Stone’s Signature Creations are as fun to eat as they are to order. With names like “Cookie Minster”, ‘Germanchökolätekäke’, ‘Mud Pie Mojo’, and ‘The Pie Who Loved Me’, ordering from the menu is thoroughly entertaining. Alongside this, the vendors are not only extremely friendly, but are also dedicated to making the Cold Stone experience an unforgettable one.

We decided on the Banana Caramel Crunch (29LE) and the Chocolate Devotion (29LE). Serving vessels include tubs, traditional cones and cones moulded into the shape of a cup; variations of these waffle cups see chocolate frosting around the rim as well as an assortment of coloured icings. We opted for a ‘like it’ bowl and, scooping out the ice cream flavours, the vendor put on a juggling show, before mashing and mixing the ice-cream with the sweet additions on an icey preparation slab.

Should you choose to create your own ice-cream treat, there is an entire station dedicated to toppings and fresh ingredients, as well as a few syrup dispensers. The chocolate devotion was a mixture glorifying chocolate in all its forms – chocolate ice-cream, chocolate chips, brownies and fudge pieces, perfectly folded in together. On the opposite end of the spectrum, the banana caramel crunch was a light, French vanilla ice-cream blend containing roasted almonds, fresh slices of banana and a lace of caramel fusing it together.
