Kavun: Where Coffee Artistry Meets Aroma in the Heart of Zamalek

The concept of speciality coffee is steadily taking root in the global community. In recent years, Cairo has witnessed a great interest in the craft of coffee, with enthusiasts and connoisseurs seeking unique flavours and distinctive brewing techniques. Among the diverse neighbourhoods of Cairo, Zamalek stands out as a serene oasis, offering a perfect escape from the city’s fast-paced rhythm. Nestled amidst the charming lanes of Zamalek is Kavun, a corner-side coffee shop for coffee lovers seeking a quick grab or a quiet place to work.

As we were in the neighbourhood, we decided to pass by Kavun and try it out. It was evident that the interior is an interplay between contemporary aesthetics and artistic expression. As you step inside, you are immediately enveloped by the soothing shades of blue, creating an atmosphere of calm and serenity. The concrete accents, on the other hand, add an industrial edge, grounding the space with a sense of raw authenticity. We ordered our two drinks to enjoy outside. The cold brew was refreshing – smooth, bold, and with just the right hint of bitterness that awakens the senses. Additionally, their bottled passion fruit iced tea was quite tasty. Sweet yet beautifully balanced, however, unlike regular iced teas, this one had a slightly heavier consistency, which might not appeal to everyone.

Kavun’s attention to detail in crafting beverages that tantalise the taste buds is commendable, making it a must-visit destination for those in search of a perfect blend of innovation and calm vibes. The experience was a perfect blend of exquisite beverages, a contemporary ambience, and a touch of artistic charm. What stood out the most was the opportunity to savour our drinks amidst the old-world charm of Zamalek, especially in the comfortable street-side seating. The weather seemed to synchronise perfectly with the moment, enhancing the enjoyment of every sip. The old Zamalek vibes were unmistakable, adding a nostalgic touch to the overall experience.
