Valentine’s Day 2013: Celebrating Love in Cairo

Roses are red, violets are blue, Valentine’s day can be cool, it’s all down to you. Don’t panic about that last bit though; we wouldn’t leave you clueless! We’ve put together some ideas to help you share the love this Valentine’s Day.

Whether you’re sickeningly loved up or loving being single, there’s loads to do to in Cairo this weekend.

Firstly, you’re definitely going to need some flowers – either to earn brownie points or just to make yourself feel better. Head down to Left Bank and pick up a beautiful bunch from Khadra’s Valentine’s stall; their plants are grown to impress. Zamalek’s new fruit juice haven, Lychee, are putting together special fruit bouquets while Nola are laying out some particularly cute Valentine’s cupcakes, too.

If you’re riding solo, we’re sure you’ll find your prince/princess of your dreams whilst drowning your sorrows and strutting your stuff at one of the many club nights in the city. If you’re not, put on your glad rags and dance the night away with that special someone.

Our favourite sister cocktail bars are both throwing pre-Valentine’s events; ‘Love Fever‘ at Amici Zamalek promises to be infectious with live jazz and fondue whilst Amici Heliopolis hosts smooth seranader, Wagdi Francis at their ‘It’s Valentine‘ event. Amici Heliopolis are also having an actual ‘Valentine‘ event with DJ Fiko getting everyone in the mood.

Roof Bar’s Valentines Party promises a musical medley of DJs, whilst Tamarai are hosting  a Valentine Edition of their ever popular ‘4 The Love of House‘ club night – who doesn’t love house music?!

Bringing some love from overseas, Spectrum Records have flown in International DJ, Sebastian Doering – A.K.A. Lovebirds – to spin the decks at their event ‘Peace ‘n’ Club‘ at Katameya Heights Club House. Ukranian tech-house-hottie,  DJ Miss FTV, is taking time off working for Fashion TV to spend all night in the DJ booth at Sun City’s Cavallini. Also moving away from the norm, Club 35 are celebrating in style with ‘Black and White Sensation‘.
It might be a little late to book a get-away in Paris so O Bar bring the world’s most romantic city to Cairo, with love, for another edition of  ‘This is…‘. Meanwhile, love will fill the air of Downtown Cairo, as the ever-popular Greek Club, where the 30LE entry fee affords lovebirds a 25% discount on drinks and a finger-food buffet. Over in Heliopolis, French restaurant, Salt, are getting in on the act with a special Valentine’s Day tasting menu with a side of unlimited champagne.
Sticking to Egyptian cairorevamp_users, Arabesque present DJ Nader Nelson as your ‘Heart Beats‘ along to some hot belly dancing entertainment. DJ Fady and DJ Ahmed will also get your blood racing with a night of non-stop toe-tapping at Almaz, while DJs Zizo, Kiko and Bob hit the decks at Bamboo’s ‘Red Roses‘. Every Cairene loves a sing-song right? Melouk and Eureka invite you to take to the stage and serenade the crowds with a heavy dose of Valentine’s karaoke.

If you’re looking for something a little more chilled, Fuze are offering an array of delicious cocktails and delectable nibbles at ‘Valentine Lovers‘, whilst the modish Jazz Bar in the Kempinski hotel create a romantic setting with their ‘Valentine’s Day‘ night.

You could of course spend your evening desperately trying to ignore Valentine’s Day altogether. DJ Ramy and VJ Momo are doing just that at Cairo Jazz Club whilst Cairo White Club offer you the perfect excuse spend a Thursday night simply getting inebriated at ‘Stereosonic‘.

We mustn’t forget that Valentine’s Day is also known as the ‘Feast of Saint Valentine’ – it’d be rude not to dine on such an anniversary. Chef’s all over the city have put together special menus in the hope to prove that food really is the way to a man’s (or a woman’s) heart. After all, a hungry partner is never a happy one.

The Fairmont Heliopolis and Toweres are offering special Valentines menus at  Leonardo‘s, Maria’s, Raj, Pizza Bar, Noble House, Lan Tania, Aqua E Luce and Al Dabke for 600LE per couple.

Buddha Bar at the Sofitel Cairo El Gezirah is offering their ‘Buddha Be Mine!‘ deal, including chocolate treats, complimentary drinks and a three course meal for 600LE per couple. If you fork out a full 1402LE you’ll get all of this, as well as a bed and breakfast at restaurant, Sud. The hotel’s SO spa are also offering a number of indulgent Valentine’s Day packages.

The Dusit Thani Lake View in New Cairo is offering a buffet at Branzino (480LE++ per couple) and a set menu at Ruin Thai (560LE++ per couple). A one night stay at their luxurious hotel with breakfast, starts at 1500LE.

Book a table for dinner between 6PM and 9PM at Mohandeseen’s lush night-spot, Alchemy, and receive two complimentary drinks, one desert and a mysterious ‘love bundle’.
Tempo Restaurant and Lounge is tempting us with complimentary welcome drinks, strawberries and live entertainment to boot, as a part of a special set menu for 350LE per couple. Elsewhere, neighbouring Giza restaurants, Asha’s and Chop Chop, are laying out an open buffet for 200LE per person.
Of course, you could think outside the box a little and connect over art exhibitions at one of the many galleries in and around our amorous city.

This is just a snapshot of the Valentine’s Day events in the city; check out the Cairo 360 events calendar for more!

Have fun and be good – If you can’t be good, be safe! Lots of love, Cairo360.
