You might remember back in April, we told you, our readers, all about the 8th edition of the El Gouna International Squash Open. It was certainly a pleasure to get to witness such a world-class event, where Egyptians Raneem El Welily and Ali Farag reigned as champions of the 2019 El Gouna International.

This, however, did not come as much of a surprise, as Egyptians have been dominating the international squash scene for a while now. Indeed, back in January, Nour El Sherbini shattered a world record, while in March, Ali Farag managed to seize the PSA World Championship title for the first time! In the same month, Nour El Sherbini and Mohamed Shorbagy, made it to Forbes’ 30 Under 30 List.

Today, we are here to celebrate yet another Egyptian accolade in the field of Squash; Nouran Gohar and Mohamed El Shorbagy are the 2019 Allam British Open champions. It is also important to mention here, that Egyptian squash player, Ali Farag, was the person playing against Shorbagy for the title, on the 26th of May at the Allam Sports Centre in Hull.

The British Open is the sport’s longest-running tournament, and Gohar has finally managed to place her name in the history books with a sensational dismantling of France’s Camille Serme, as she powered to an 11-3, 11-8, 11-3 victory, in just 30 minutes to win the women’s event.

El Shorbagy and Gohar will take home a total amount of 22,800 USD in prize money. The victory places El Shorbagy in seventh place on the men’s all-time PSA title winners, with his 37th title (Canada’s Jonathon Power shares this ranking with El Shorbagy).

We’re incredibly proud of all our Egyptian squash players!
