Da Franco: Italian Takeout in Mohandiseen
Who doesn’t love a little hot and fresh comfort food of pasta and pizza
delivered to your own front door? Located
on Managem Wel Mahager Street, directly across from Tebesty near Lebanon Square,
Da Franco is a tiny restaurant that only offers takeout and delivery. Delivery
is available to Mohandiseen and the surrounding neighbourhoods, with an average
wait of 45 minutes and no minimum charge.
Complimentary bruschetta accompanies all orders, but save your space for Da
Franco’s unconventional, super fresh pizzas. Collaborating well with local
produce, the pizzas are usually piled high with fresh vegetables and with minimal grease.
They’re definitely not your run-of-the-mill pizzas dripping with
sauce and cheese. For 27LE, the pizza primavera comes with sliced cherry
tomatoes, loads of fresh rocket and corn as well as basil, mozzarella and
Romano cheese; though the Romano tasted suspiciously more like the local Roumi
cheese. Sadly, the basil and corn were missing, but the freshness of the other
ingredients filled the void.
Also on the menu are salads, soups and appetisers (12LE to 20LE)
spinach, mozzarella sticks and a fresh
green salad topped with light lemon vinaigrette. From their pasta selection,
the ravioli Sanremo (32LE) came piping hot with an even cream sauce filled with
smoked turkey, mushrooms and broccoli. The tasty sauce was most definitely a
hit but the ravioli lacked stuffing and flavour.
For dessert, their tiramisu (22LE) had a light whipped topping finished
off with a bitter sprinkling of what we assumed to be Nescafé; as a result, the
cake was moist and scrumptious.
Needless to say, although Da Franco had a few ingredients missing that this
reviewer had been looking forward to, the restaurant’s fresh ingredients make
this a viable option when you feel like moderately priced, tasty delivery.
