Nüwa: Pan-Asian Newcomer Impresses in Capital Business Park

Everyone in Egypt is hopping on the Asian food trends. It’s not a secret; Egyptians are becoming more and more accustomed to the taste and flavours of Asia, and we are all for it. The latest addition to Mori International is Nüwa, getting all the finesse that we are used to from Mori Sushi, Tamara, and Ted’s. Nuwa first opened in Alexandria back in 2018 and made its way here in Cairo in August 2020.

Their menu specialises in pan-Asian cuisine, meaning it has different famous dishes from some Asian countries. The dishes range from the Chinese Peking Duck and Thai Tom Yum Soup to the Indian Biryani and Japanese Sushi. We decided to visit their Capital Promenade branch after seeing their appetising online presence and colourful range of dishes.

We decided to start our meal with a refreshing salad and appetiser. That’s why we settled on Dynamite Shrimp (140 LE) – golden shrimp tempura tossed in hot spicy mayo, and the Asian Rocket Salad (75 LE) – arugula, cucumbers, shitake mushrooms, cashews, and Nuwa dressing. The shrimp appetiser was beyond words; it was spicy, crunchy, and tender all at the same time. The salad was impressive as well; the freshness of the ingredients and the tanginess and saltiness of the dressing really upped the level of the arugula salad.

As we were finishing our starters, the main courses came, smelling delicious. We had ordered one Singaporean Noodles (170 LE) – fried rice noodles cooked with vegetables, shrimp, and egg in a Southwestern Asian curry sauce. For us, it was one of the best tasting noodles we’ve had in a long time; everything was cooked to perfection and the flavours all married together fantastically. The curry sauce with noodles tasted unique, the shrimp was of excellent quality, and the vegetables were tender yet still crunchy. We also gave their Thai Basil Chicken a try (170 LE) – chicken and vegetables cooked in a fragrant and spicy basil sauce. This main course went great with a side of steamed rice (45 LE) – the basil aroma came through, and the subtle green curry sauce highlighted the tenderness of the chicken and vegetables.

To end this fantastic meal, we got one Kulfi Ice Cream (65 LE) – India’s traditional cardamom and mixed nuts ice cream. The dessert, unfortunately, did not fair well as the rest of the meal; the ice cream had an odd texture as if it had been frozen for too long, and the flavours didn’t shine. The staff were nice enough to let us try another one, but probably this batch, in particular, wasn’t perfect.

The dessert did not matter to us because the whole meal was more than flawless; the staff took the dessert off our check without us having to ask. Nuwa is a place to go for good flavourful food, great hospitality, and an even better vibe. The best thing is that their prices are really affordable compared to the quality, cleanliness, and finesse they offer. We are visiting again. They just opened another branch in Garden 8 in New Cairo, so make sure to check it out if you’re in the neighbourhood.

360 Tip

They make their own dumpling dough from scratch, so if you’re an authentic dumplings fan, be sure to try it out. Also, the menu has the prices before and after taxes and services.

Best Bit

All the savoury dishes and hospitality.

Worst Bit

The Kulfi ice cream.
