The Cairo 360 Editors’ Choice Awards 2017: Indian Cuisine Award Winners
Cairo 360
There’s something intangibly brilliant about Indian food – maybe it’s the rich sauces. Maybe it’s aromas of the spices. It might even be the colours – we do eat without eyes, after all.
But what many don’t care to realise is that while Indian cuisine is hearty and wholesome, it’s also very delicate – those aromas don’t just appear out of thin air. In Cairo, there are a fare few Indian restaurants – but only a handful treat this most exotic of foods with the tender, love and care it demands.
Congratulations to the winners of the 2017 Cairo 360 Editors’ Choice Award winners in the Indian Cuisine category!

New to the Cairo 360 Editors’ Choice Awards and new to Cairo period, Manipuri was hailed as possibly the best Indian restaurant in the capital by one very satisfied Cairo 360 reviewer. It’s no surprise – Sofitel Cairo El Gezirah has some outstanding restaurants and this one continues the trend.

A surprise winner for some, Indira is located at Holiday Inn Cairo Citystars – a fact that makes many turn their noses up at it. But what they’re missing out on is a chic, elegant and sophisticated restaurant that turns out Indian dishes that are both delicious and homely.

Yes, another hotel – this time it’s the Ramses Hilton in Downtown Cairo, where Maharaja resides. The kitsch that is so prevalent in many Indian restaurants is kept to a minimum and the food takes centre stage – food that covers India’s much more varied food with a certain sense of panache.

Maadi is full of unsuspecting restaurants, but few are as spectacular as Maharani. Unlike its peers above, there is no subtlety – in fact, restaurants don’t get anymore kitschy than this. But Maharani, nonetheless, delivers where it matters – the food is outstanding.
Check out all this year’s Cairo 360 Editor’s Choice Award Winners here and stay tuned for more on the best that Egypt’s capital has to offer!
