If you are bored with the menu at
McDonald’s or any other international fast food franchise, and have tried each
item on their menus at least thrice; look no further than Welatain, a local fast food chain
that serves up quality sandwiches.

Located on Nabil El Wakad Street
in Heliopolis, Welatain is a takeaway
joint that doesn’t provide table service; the only bar seats available are designated
for customers to wait at for their orders. It takes around fifteen minutes for an order to
arrive if you’re picking it up yourself and around 45 minutes if you are
ordering food to be delivered.

Welatain menu offers a wide selection of seafood, beef
and chicken sandwiches. Most sandwiches come in two sizes: medium and large. And
if you hadn’t had anything to eat in three days, Welatain offers a 50-cm-long sandwich; not recommended unless
you can handle a food coma.

This reviewer sampled the sawareekh
sandwich (15.75LE), which is just as the name promises: vegetable stuffing and
molten mozzarella cheese wrapped in a chicken fillet, with hot spices added for
good measure. This sandwich only comes in a large size, which ended up leaving
us beyond stuffed.

Another remarkable chicken
sandwich is the zinger (12LE for a medium and 15LE for a large size): thin
strips of deep-fried, crispy chicken breast are drizzled with a rich mayonnaise
sauce in sandwich bread. Apart from being heavy on the stomach, the sandwich
was a tasty delight for our taste buds.

If sandwiches are not your thing,
Welatain also serves up a delicious, albeit limited, selection of main dishes:
chicken, meat or seafood are served with rice, French fries, coleslaw and two
burger buns. The meals’ prices start at 26.75LE.

Moreover, Welatain hasn’t
forgotten about healthy, low-calorie options; though there are merely two diet meals
offered: mix grill and grilled chicken breast (26.75LE). Diet meals are served
with a side of chicken Caesar salad.

Welatain offers more than
just international burgers and hot dogs. The menu also features oriental sandwiches
like grilled kofta (10LE), grilled liver (7.50LE) and hawawshi (7LE). Gluttons
out there, rejoice! A burger sandwich with a radius of 29.50 cm is also
available!

Light on the wallet, but heavy on
the stomach, Welatain might
just be the right spot for late night ordering or when the craving for quality
burgers kicks in.
