Beneshty: One-Stop Clothes Shop in Maadi for When You’re Broke

Although Cairo continues to enjoy an influx
of international brands opening up new branches throughout the city, it never
hurts to continue appreciating the local underdogs that have the potential of
providing you with all that you’d need at much more reasonable prices.

Located just next to Catacomb on Road 231
in Maadi, Beneshty promises clothes for women, men and children that are 100%
cotton; the main reason we were drawn through its doors.

Separated into three distinct sections, the
first one upon entering is the men’s. They carry a healthy collection of casual
clothing. Cotton t-shirts (30LE) with sporty graphics are available, as well as
chequeredshirts in several colours (60LE). They had a nice pair of pale blue
striped linen trousers that go for 45LE. Beneshty conveniently sells bathing
suit trunks, in typical surfer fashion (70LE), and a selection of boxers as
well (18LE).

Across from the men’s section is the
extensive children’s section. Carrying both girls’ and boys’ clothing, the
collection also ranges in age; starting from babies’ clothing to more grown
children. For the former, there are some very cute Whinnie the Pooh t-shirts for
22LE and an adorable striped dress that’s supposedly Polo, though we doubt that
since its price is only 52LE.

For the older children, t-shirts for boys
are priced between 28LE and 38LE; ‘Calvin Klien’ leggings in a variety of
colours and polka dots are for 15LE. There are also some lovely pyjama trousers
with Hello Kitty on them for 18LE.

The ladies’ section is probably the biggest;
it takes up the rest of the shop and has the most varied collection. One can
find quite a selection of t-shirts, though not all are very tempting. Ranging
in price from around 40LE and going up to 75LE, some t-shirts stick to basic
colours while others feature elaborate designs with shiny beads and intricate
patterns. They have some ‘Gap’ tank tops, but again, we doubt they are
authentic seeing as they only cost 15LE apiece.

Floral summer dresses came in different
lengths and styles, with prices between 60LE and 80LE; light material shirts,
also floral, would make a great option in this heat at 45LE to 60LE. Another
escape from the heat are shorts, which they have a selection of, priced at
about 45LE.

The jeans section was intriguing because of their cut and material. Available in different colours,
such as white, bright red and brown, the jeans are remarkably cheap at
45LE-70LE. Interestingly, the blue jeans section are priced higher going up to
120LE.

At the checkout counter they offer some simple
beaded jewellery, mostly bracelets, ranging between 15LE and 50LE.

Beneshty is not the first place one would
think of visiting when splurging on a shopping spree. And although they offer
quite a few fake designer brands, a lot of their items could really prove
useful. Cheap, soft and relatively up to date, we say: why not?

360 Tip

Broke? Beneshty's plain tees are simple, smart and cheap.

Best Bit

Great items in the kid's section.

Worst Bit

The fake branding on some of the items is completely unnecessary. They ruin what are otherwise decent pieces of clothing.
