Eastpak: International Bag Brand in Cairo

What started
as a line of US Army bags in 1960 has become Eastpak. The popular luggage brand is owned
by VF Corporation, the same US company that owns Lee Jeans and Vans. Though
we’re lucky to have one of its many branches here in Egypt, Eastpak isn’t as
popular here as it should be due to its high prices.

Located in
Heliopolis’ Citystars mall in Phase 2, the shop’s small size doesn’t prevent it
from being equipped with every possible style and shape for bags and luggage.
Starting from sporty little bags (150LE) to extra size travel bags that can
easily swallow your whole wardrobe and cost something close to a plane
ticket, there isn’t any free space on the floor, walls or ceiling that
isn’t used to display the products.

Luggage pieces
come in many sizes: a medium-size trolley travel bag costs around 900LE and
1300LE for a bigger size, you can also find a light-weight version of the bag
for easier carrying. The travel bags at Eastpak are usually designed with cheerful beach and palm tree prints. You can find several different bag styles in the same print or colour theme.

Besides the
travel baggage line, Eastpak has a range of premium quality and unfortunately
high-priced products. Carry-on bags with shoulder straps, laptop bags and
backpacks are available in mostly solid colours with the brand’s unmistakable logo. Starting
at 700LE, laptop bags are surprisingly spacious with enough compartments to
carry lots of stuff besides the laptop itself. A bright fuchsia backpack will
set you back 675LE and is designed to fit your body’s shape, giving maximum support
to your shoulders and back.

With their motto
’Built to Resist‘, Eastpak promises prime quality bags down to the smallest
details with a 30-year standard warranty on all their products. (yes, 30 years!), during which they promise
to replace or fix any defect that might appear after usage.

Eastpak
deserves its worldwide reputation as a trusted brand for bags and luggage. That
trust comes at a high price, but whatever you may need in terms of packing for
a trip, Eastpak has it covered.

Best Bit

It’s rarely crowded, so you’d be free to browse through the various collections without noticing the lack of free space.

Worst Bit

Some items are far too expensive for this reviewer’s budget.
