While shopping for casual
clothes, there are certain shops in Cairo that seem to lure you in and are
guaranteed to have whatever you’re looking for. Promod is definitely one of
those magical shops. Though the brand’s objective is to provide better fashion
at affordable prices, their branches in Egypt seem to disagree on what ‘affordable’ is exactly
.
Located on the second floor of
Phase 2 in Citystars across from H&M, Promod’s summer collection is fun,
colourful and light; perfect for the Cairo weather. Though its space is crammed
with display tables, shelves and racks practically bursting with vivid clothes,
it falls into the more expensive category of department stores. Prices for
mini-skirts, funky patterned shorts and jeans all start around 300LE, while
dresses and jackets reach up to 800LE.
Their summery casual gear is so
prevailing that the couple of tailored work dresses (around 500LE) on offer
feel out of place, and nothing says summer fashion like loose, vibrant-coloured
cotton t-shirts. You can find plenty of basic colours in plain or printed
t-shirts for around 200LE to stock up on for the summer season.
Aside from their casual wear,
Promod has a few decent options for office-friendly clothes, such as structured
suit jackets, smoking tuxedos with 3/4 sleeves, and black straight-leg trousers
that are surprisingly durable and flattering.
As for their accessory
collection, long bronze and silver necklaces (150LE) and fine
zebra-print bracelets can be found next to slender leather belts in brown and
black for 250LE. If you’re looking for a pair of high heels or a large slouchy
bag, the shop has an organised footwear section next to the well-lit dressing
rooms with a variety of shoes from beach sandals (300LE) to a pair of black
pointy stilettos (450LE). Purses and bags cost around 350LE and are in very
good leather quality.
Take your time browsing through
the racks, as Promod always seems to be hiding one more rail of clothes. Rows
after rows of never-ending colours of t-shirts, sheer and feminine blouses,
jeans, jackets and dresses mean that you never know what you’ll find.
Promod is one of the perfect shops where you can enjoy
shopping while getting a new outfit for the weekend. Be
warned, though; fun sure has its price.
