2023 has truly been a great year in film, gracing us with Barbenheimer, and lately, the world of cinema has seen exciting developments and innovations that have captivated audiences and pushed the boundaries of storytelling. Filmmakers can now explore new ways of storytelling, blurring the lines between reality and fiction. Here are some of 2024’s most anticipated international films to look forward to.

 

Mean Girls

The iconic 2004 movie by Lindsey Lohan and Rachel McAdams will forever be iconic. Its many references are still viral sensations on social media, and its reprisal is becoming equally popular. The reprisal stars are Renée Rapp as Regina George and Christopher Briney as Aaron Samuels, with Tina Fey returning in the same role as the original, Ms Norbury. Having been released on January 12th, this remake is not a sequel as many have thought it to be.

 

Kung Fu Panda 4

Before Frozen took over households, Kung Fu Panda was the staple for children, with its initial release in 2008 and sequels coming in 2011 and 2016. The karate-chopping panda is relatable and creates a bond with children and parents alike. The returning star-studded movie stars Jack Black, Jackie Chan, and Angelina Jolie to voice a new adventure, set to be released on March 8th.

 

Inside Out 2

A truly significant film in children’s entertainment, Inside Out was an instant hit upon its release in 2015, with its ability to tackle heavy emotional topics, the pain of growing up, loss, change, and many difficulties that not only children but even young adults face without being able to express. The new sequel features Riley, the main character, having improved in understanding her emotions but faces a new emotion, anxiety, which is possibly the most relatable emotion of all. The movie is expected to be released on June 14th.

 

Deadpool 3

This witty and borderline offensive superhero has the ability to heal his wounds to the point of regrowing whole limbs if necessary. With an even sassier attitude, Ryan Reynolds reprises his beloved and most successful role as Deadpool after eight long years, scheduled for release on July 26th.

 

Dune 2

A sci-fi fantasy film based on the book series by Frank Herbert came out in 2021 with a unique setting, full of plot twists and adventures, and a suspenseful cliffhanger. Finally, the anticipated sequel, directed by Denis Villeneuve, will pick up where it left off with Timothée Chalamet’s role as the protagonist, Paul Atreides, and his connection to the Fremen tribe. Zendaya, seen only in the last few minutes of the first movie, will become an important character in the sequel scheduled for release on March 14th.
