One word that gets thrown around a lot in Egypt is “heritage”. We love to talk about our heritage and we are rightfully proud of it. Indeed, Egypt is home to monumental artefacts, and a long history. Accordingly, the Ministry of Culture is organising a grand celebration for World Heritage Day, and we’re expecting it to be epic.

UNESCO has chosen the 18th of April to commemorate World Heritage Day. Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem, Egypt’s Minister of Culture, has created a committee headed by Engineer Mohamed Abo Seada, to oversee Egypt’s preparations for World Heritage Day.

The full details are not yet disclosed, but Abo Seada has stated that the committee has prepared a holistic vision for the activities and events that will take place all over Egypt. We expect this celebration to be a unique one as it will see a collaboration between the Ministry of Culture, different universities, and several civil society organisations. Abo Seada also announced that one of the main events to take place will be the closing of Al-Sharifain Street in Downtown Cairo as it will house several displays courtesy of a selection of visual artists, and performances from a variety of musicians.

We’re excited to see what else they have prepared for World Heritage Day.
