Whenever we think of theatre, we remember classic plays that fill our hearts with joy. We remember iconic punchlines that still make us laugh, even after hearing them for the millionth time. Even in Eid Al-Adha or Eid Al-Fitr, these plays are still a staple. Indeed, whenever we feel bored and are looking for something simple and pure to watch, there are tons of classic plays for us to choose from.

Unfortunately, for a long time, such plays have only remained as part of our history, with no real competition being produced in our time. The theatre seems like a lost art, with no actors making a strong effort to reclaim its position. Perhaps Ashraf Abdelbaky tried to pave the way with Masrah Masr, but those are quite short plays, unlike the classic format we’re missing.

However, these short plays might just have inspired Mohamed Henedy to get back to the theatre scene with his own production. 3 Ayam X El Sa7el is the name of his newest play, a comedy featuring Bayoumi Fouad, Mohamed Tharwat, Ahmed Fathy, Mohamed Mahmoud, Maha Abou Ouf, Nada Musa, and Samia Al-Tarabulsi, all led by director and producer Magdy ElHawary.

Henedy is looking forward to bring back the old days of going to the theatre, while simultaneously improving upon certain aspects. One aspect is punctuality, and the goal is to start at 9 pm and avoid the delays that used to happen in the past. The crew have also vowed to use state-of-the-art technology in decoration and production, bridging the gap between Egyptian theatre and international productions. Another exciting prospect is their collaboration with an international company, called Levity, in order to conduct a world tour for the play, starting with Middle Eastern countries, then touring through Europe and the USA.

We’re very excited to see how this play pans out. Henedy has always had a pivotal role in Egyptian comedy, and with such a cast and crew, we can expect to see something very promising. You can catch the play starting this weekend on 10 January, at Cairo Show Theater in Mövenpick Hotel. Get your tickets now through TicketsMarche.
