The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC) proudly introduced eight visionary photographers chosen for the prestigious Arab Documentary Photography Program (ADPP on its tenth edition). The renowned programme looks to document life and culture within the region and shed light on photographers reshaping personal, social, and political narratives with storytelling visuals. Here is all you need to know about the upcoming edition of ADPP

Handpicked by an esteemed panel of judges, Nader Bahsoun, Sadiq Al Harasi, Ali Zaraay, Mera Elnaal, Hana Gamal, Abushama, Yaqeen Tamani, and an anonymous contributor represent a diverse tapestry of talent emanating from all over the Middle East. Between Palestine, Egypt, Libya, Sudan, and Yemen, these photographers traverse landscapes scarred by conflict and warfare. As we see the world through their eyes, we embark on a journey as we look through their collective memories, navigate the depths of loss and grief, and bear witness to the poignant journeys of exile and migration.

In collaboration with the Prince Claus Fund and Magnum Foundation, the ADPP embarks on a transformative journey with these emerging artists, offering a nurturing environment where they can learn and unleash their creative side. With comprehensive mentorship, the programme not only honours the rich heritage of Arab documentary photography but also cultivates a new generation of storytellers equipped to shape the discourse of our times.

As these photographers embark on their mentorship journey, they carry with them the hopes and aspirations of a region yearning to be seen, understood, and heard. Their images promise to serve as windows into the soul of the Arab world, shedding light on both its profound struggles and enduring resilience. With AFAC’s unwavering support, these artists are poised to leave an indelible mark on the global stage, redefining the boundaries of visual storytelling with every click of the shutter.
