Hello Cairo!

The weather in Egypt's capital continues to play with out emotions as we countdown the weeks till 'Sahel Season' and other beachside tomfoolery. In the meantime, though, Cairo has plenty to keep even the most demanding of people entertained, including live music, parties, exhibitions and more.

On Thursday, Back2Basics debut new event series, Back2Gold, featuring British prog-house legend, Nick Warren, and Nacelle resident, DJ Baher, at Uptown Cairo's Clubhouse, while  newly launched event organiser, Heart, Soul & Mind, also debut their first event with Bulgarian producer/DJ, Metodi Hristov, headlining and locals, M Fayek & Sebzz, on warm up duties at the Temple in Giza.

A massive techno night awaits at Downtown's VENT, as Aly B resumes his monthly residency, while the third installment of Back in the Daze features Student DJ winner, Gaser El Safty, and up-and-coming Cairene, Ash M., behind the decks at the Dahabiya Boat.

Elsewhere, Cairo Jazz Club hosts singer/songwriter, Shady Ahmed, on a night that will also see the reformation of local band, Vybe, while Pacha Sharm resident, Ouzo, takes to the decks at Garden City’s Rooftop Lounge.

On the other end of the music spectrum, Kafafa Troupe put on a vibrant performance at the El Dammah Theater where audience members are expected to join, while the National Arab Music Ensemble take to the stage of the Main Hall at Cairo Opera House.

On Friday, Aly Goede is the man in charge of music at Cairo Jazz Club, and Habiba performs an indie rock set at VENT.

Elsewhere, Nubian-reggae fusion group, Afronoubia, perform a special concert at El Sawy Culturewheel, while Tom Waits cover band, the Raindogs, take over the stage at Maadi bar, the Tap.

There's more live music at El Dammah Theater, meanwhile, this time a night of Sudanese zar music with Asyad El Zar, while across town, Renaissance Mirage City Hotel's Vintage Bar & Lounge hosts another edition of its popular Karaoke Night.

Entertainment at the Fairmont Nile City, mewnhile, includes the soulful vocals of Riham Moustafa at Saigon Restaurant & Lounge, and songstress Lana at the Onyx Lounge.

On Saturday, quirky local band, Us We Lazq, return to the Cairo Jazz Club stage, while Hassan Ramzy performs a selection of acoustic numbers at the Tap. More live music comes courtesy of singer-songwriter, RaShRadio, takes to the stage at Balcon Lounge in Heliopolis, while the nearby Cavallini gets nostalgic with Oldies Night. Meanwhile, the Cairo Symphony Orchestra performs works b J. Brahms, R. Schumann and J. Sibelius at the Main Hall of Cairo Opera House.

New art exhibitions this week include the ‘Out of the Box’ by Adel Moustafa, exploring pollution and the concept of a new world at Zamalek Art Gallery, and joint exhibition by Yasser Nabaiel and Weaam El Masry, ‘The Forbidden’, which addresses the endless human pursuit for approval at Art Talks.
