Ladies and Gents, please welcome the first weekend of the year. To be completely honest, there’s nothing different about it, for Cairo has always known how to entertain us during any given weekend. Even if it’s the last weekend before the apocalypse, this sleepless city will always find a way to be making merry.

Thursday begins with Serena; a modern dance performance at El Gomhoria Theatre, courtesy of the Egyptian Modern Dance Company, as Cairo Opera House’s Main Hall sees Flamenco de Madrid Ballet Company taking to the stage for a performance entitled Fiesta Flamenca.

Music events ensue with Mohammed Adaweyya taking to the stage at El Sawy Culturewheel for a round of contemporary Arabic tunes, while Estabena play some Mediterranean-flavoured songs at ROOM Art Space. Folk music lovers can head to El Dammah Theatre, which hosts a night that sees El Tanboura taking to stage.

Elsewhere, Funk Off, and Blitz are set to take to Cairo Jazz Club’s stage for a rock & roll and funk night, Bakir takes to decks at The Tap East for a round of pop hits, while it’s all about hip-hop and R&B at The Tap Maadi, where DJ Mobbz takes charge of the music. As for Cairo Jazz Club 610, DJ Shiha spins some deep/progressive house tune.

When Friday comes, Nouran Aboutaleb and Samer George take to the stage for a round of contemporary Arabic tunes at ROOM Art Space, while Afronoubia take to River Hall’s stage at El Sawy Culturewheel for a set that melds African beats with Nubian vibes.

When the night grows older, Cairo Jazz Club celebrates DJ Aguizi’s birthday with a massive night, where DJ Bakir plays back-to-back with fellow DJ, Anis, before Aguizi takes over with Fahim, while DJ Misty plays some house tunes at The Tap East.

Hip-hop and R&B are on the menu at The Tap Maadi, courtesy of DJ Teddy, at The Tap West where DJ Feedo takes to decks after Screwdriver play some rock tunes, and at Cairo Jazz Club 610 as well, where DJ Mobbz, and A.K. are in charge.

As for Saturday, ROOM Art  Space welcomes underground band Do’souka to the stage for a round of songs, while El Sawy Culturewheel’s Wisdom Hall sees a Sufi night, courtesy of local band Banat El A’refeen

Meanwhile at The Tap Maadi, it’s a jazz night, where Spade of Hearts take to the stage, while Ahmed Samy ends the weekend in style at The Tap West, and DJ Kashouty plays pop at The Tap East. The final hours of the weekend sees a Sudanese folk night at Cairo Jazz Club, where Sudanese musician Asia Madani takes to the stage.
