Hello Cairo!

You may well be already planning an Eid getaway, but there's much more to see and do across Cairo before then – especially this weekend.

Thursday at Darb 1718 sees singer, Mostafa Rizk, debut songs from new album, Bab Ellouq, while acoustic ace, Shady Ahmed, kicks off the weekend at Cairo Jazz Club on a night that will see recently formed band, Vybe, also take to the stage.

Some of the best young DJs in Cairo out it in full force, too, with DJ Fuzzy and Ayman Nageeb taking the reins at O Bar alongside resident DJ, Irma, for this week’s edition of Thursday Obsession, while one of the fastest rising DJs in the country, kidmims;, celebrates her birthday in style at Maadi bar the Tap.

Elsewhere, belly-dancing star, Amie Sultan, performs at Sofitel Cairo El Gezirah’s La Palmeraie, while Downtown’s El Gomhouria Theatre hosts an on-stage adaptation of The Blue Elephant.

On Friday, the Cataract Pyramids Resort Hotel hosts huge 12-hour pool party, Heatwave, with a whole host of DJs, while later in the evening, local DJs, Sebzz and Gawdat, take to the decks at Cairo Jazz Club.

Back in Maadi, enigmatic DJ, Man-O, returns to the Tap, while O Bar’s weekly Friday event, Good Vibes, sees resident, Irma, is joined by DJ Sary. Meanwhile, Basata, take to one of the many stages at El Sawy Culturewheel, for their first of two gigs in as many days – the second of which takes place on Saturday at Cairo Jazz Club, with quirky brass-band, El Nafikha, also on the line-up.

There’s plenty of live elsewhere, too, with the Aicha Makeba Project performing at Garden City’s ROOM Art Space, while Brass Knuckles front-man, Tamer ‘The Guvna’ Emad, performs an acoustic set at the Tap. It’s not just the pros who are taking to the stage, though, with Mashrou3 Al Mareekh returning to Darb 1718 for another open-mic night.

There’s plenty more to get stuck into across the capital this weekend – check out the Cairo 360 events calendar for more!
