The sun shines today on the warmest Wednesday we’ve witnessed this year. Speaking of hot stuff, check out the newest releases in the cinemas across the city. Here’s what to expect:

What is it about? The German thriller follows the Strelzyk and Wetzel families as they cross the inner German border from the GDR to West Germany in a homemade hot-air balloon.

The good: If you are not German, stepping into the worlds of two German families will expose you to a brand new intriguing culture.

The bad: The English subtitles will make your watching experience a bit involved.

Ip Man 4: The Finale

What is it about? The grand finale of the action series follows Kung Fu master, Ip Man (Donnie Yen), on his journey to the United States, where he finds his star student upsetting the local martial arts community by opening a Wing Chun school.

The good: Martial arts fan will witness the heroic send off to the saga, and the fight scenes are choreographed to perfection.

The bad: Like all films linked to a series, you must watch all the other sequels to keep up with the plotline.

What is it about? The adventure flick follows Dr John Dolittle (Robert Downey Jr.), a famed veterinarian from England, who keeps the company of animals he can speak to. He is forced to set sail on a journey to a mythical island as he looks for a cure for the young queen’s illness. The group consists of an apprentice (Harry Collett), along with a group of animal friends, including a parrot (Emma Thompson), a gorilla (Rami Malek), a duck (Octavia Spencer), an ostrich (Kumail Nanijiani), and a polar bear (John Cena).

The good: Perfect for a family outing! We all want to wake up with superpowers and have a chat with our pets.

The bad: A few fans of the previous films might miss the older leading comedy character played by Eddie Murphy.
