Parks and Resurrection: Where to Enjoy Easter/Sham El-Naseem

It’s traditional for Egyptians to head towards parks and public gardens to celebrate spring or Easter. On April 25th, Sham El-Naseem will come knocking on our doors, and we’ll want to go out to ‘smell’ the lovely spring atmosphere (the non-allergic bunch of us, at least!) So where to go? Cairo has some of the most beautiful parks and public gardens in the country. Here are the best for Sham El-Naseem festivities!

Al-Azhar Park

We can never start without Al-Azhar park! One of Cairo’s most beloved, romantic, and family-friendly. It’s spacious, as it’s one of the largest parks in Cairo, covering 80 acres. Accompanied with a stunning view of Cairo, as it’s located on top of a hill in the middle of historical Cairo, Al-Azahar is an excellent pick for a family afternoon!

Al-Horreya Park

Located just across the street from Cairo Opera House in Zamalek, Al-Horreya is one of Cairo’s most favoured and prestigious parks. If you have a historical or artistic interest, then Al-Horreya’s atmosphere will capture you! The park is filled with statues of great historical and artistic figures from Egypt and across the world. It’s stunning nature-wise too, so the appeal is balanced and fitting to the whole family!

Family Park

One of the newest items on this list, Family Park is located in New Cairo, just at the entrance of Rehab. It’s made to accommodate anything a family might want (true to its name!) There are many different activities for all ages other than just the stunning, spacious greenery of the place. These include a theatre, 3D cinema, cultural centres, and a historical museum. In terms of their entertainment, they have theme parks, a zoo, a train for the children, and much more!

Al-Orman Garden

One of Egypt’s oldest and most famous, Al-Orman is a grand botanical garden built during Khedive Ismail’s rule in 1875. It stands beside the Giza zoo and hosts over 150 varieties of flowers and over 500 rare plants. In all cases, it gives its atmosphere more charm and allure in the spring!
