Deadpool 2 Topples Avengers: Infinity War

Marvel has been rocking it at the box office for 10 years now when they first released Iron Man in 2008. Since then, they started what is known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), producing nearly 20 movies with tons of Marvel characters, all inside a single universe, telling one long and exciting shared story.

The latest edition in the MCU was Avengers: Infinity War, posed to be one of the biggest superhero movies, no, one of the biggest blockbusters in general, of all time. More than 20 superheroes united in this movie with major actors such as Robert Downey Junior, Benedict Cumberbatch, Scarlett Johansen, Chris Pratt, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and many, many more. As per expectations, the movie soared to incredible ratings, and generated insane amounts of money. It had the highest-grossing Saturday of all-time with $82.1 million, set a new worldwide opening record with $640.5 million, and crossed one billion dollars in record time.

Despite all of that planning, and a story built for 10 years through around 20 movies, with huge investments and a star-studded cast, it was beaten. A movie that features a much less star-studded cast and a significantly lower capital, toppled Infinity War off the top of the box office. It even came close to breaking the record by reaching $125 million to be the third highest opening of 2018 right behind Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War. Overseas, Deadpool 2 added $176 million, garnering a total debut of $301 million. So what do you think? Will Deadpool 2 break any of the many Avengers: Infinity War records? Only time will tell, but unfortunately for Cairene fans, we’ll have to wait for after Ramadan to check out the Deadpool sequel.
