Hello film fans! A horror story, a crime saga, and an adventure thriller are in store for you in Cairo cinemas this week. 

Winchester

What’s it about? Winchester is a supernatural horror film about a gun manufacturing family. Perhaps the most intriguing part of this film is the casting of Helen Mirren in a horror movie. She plays the role of Sarah Winchester, a widow who’s convinced that she’s cursed by the souls of those who died at the hands of Winchester’s firearms.

The Good: This movie strives to be more than a horror movie. Since the film has the monumental actress, Helen Mirren on board, you constantly feel that there is more to this film than a few scares. Adapting the plot from a true story, the movie is all about Sarah’s inner feelings of guilt and fear. It’s more of a supernatural drama with a twist of thrill, than a full-blown horror movie.

The Bad: While the film tries to tread the line between drama and horror, some may find it has failed at accomplishing both. Those expecting a real horror movie might be disappointed, and the inner struggle might be lost on other viewers.

 

Den of Thieves

What’s it about? Den of Thieves tells the somewhat classical tale of a fight between the thieves and the good guys. An elite group of County Sheriff Deputies is obsessed with stopping the most successful bank robbery crew in the state. The war is on, as the crew attempts the seemingly impossible feat of robbing the Federal Reserve Bank in LA.

The Good: Who doesn’t like ‘cops versus thieves’ story? The crime saga is what you expect it to be; it is a fun, action-packed movie that seems to have a bit of depth to its plot. Taking inspiration from classic crime movies, the film somewhat succeeds in paying tribute to films like The Usual Suspects and Heat.

The Bad: A problem lots of movies like this one face is the been-there-done-that feel. After decades of crime sagas, it becomes very difficult to innovate. Den of Thieves may fail at surprising you with unpredictable plot twists or new angles.

 

Open Water 3: Cage Dive

What’s it about? A group of friends – aspiring to appear on an extreme reality show – film themselves shark cage diving to audition for the show. Of course, things go south and they’re left in extreme danger. The friends are left stranded in the waters.

The Good: The movie is an adventure thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. While the plot is familiar, it seems like a pretty well-produced movie. If you’re into shark attacks, and water dangers, this movie will definitely be up your alley.

The Bad: Almost every website is giving this film a bad review. This movie, and the previous films in the franchise, have gotten average and less than average ratings.
