This week in Cairo cinemas, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson makes a welcome return in the cinematic adaptation of the Video Game Rampage, while the film version of the graphic novel I Kill Giants hits theaters. Lastly, the action-thriller Black Water, starring Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren, also hits the big screen.
What’s it about?: Rampage is an adaptation of a classic PlayStation game with the same name. The film stars Dwayne Johnson as a primatologist who forms a bond with a monstrous ape and attempts to protect him from dangerous forces.
The good: Dwayne Johnson is always entertaining to watch.
The bad: Explosions! Guns! CGI! Dwayne Johnson saving the world! Pretty sure we’ve seen it all before.
What’s it about?: I Kill Giants is based on an acclaimed graphic novel of the same name. The plot revolves around a young girl struggling through life, as she attempts to overcome her own demons by standing up to the giants that threaten her life.
The good: The graphic novel is praised for its ambitious blend of fantasy and realism.
The bad: The film gives off the vibe that is very similar to the highly praised A Monster Calls.
What’s it about?: Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren team up once again for the action thriller Black Water. A CIA operative teams up with an inmate in an attempt to escape their imprisonment.
The good: Van Damme and Lundgren are seasoned action stars.
The bad: Originality is nowhere to be found here, so don’t bother looking.
