While mosalsalat have been the talk of the town over the last month, we often forget that Egypt has had a love affair with the world of film for decades.

From the ‘Golden Age of Egyptian Cinema’, to the emerging underground voices, to movies from across the world arriving on these shores, film-buffs have plenty to sink their teeth into – even more so with the opening of Sun City’s new, state-of-the-art cinema.

Having officially opened on June 29th this is no ordinary cinema. With movie theatres able to host a total of 3,500 moviegoers over a whopping 16 different halls (four of which are VIP), this is certainly one of the biggest cinemas in Cairo, if not the biggest.

Said VIP halls really are VIP – think lazy-boy chairs, lots of space and the general feel of coziness that the modern movie-going experience demands. The bow on this filmic gift is the very reasonable process – 25LE between 10.30AM to 1.30PM and 50LE during the rest of the day.

The arrival of this colossal cinema complex comes as a welcome addition to what is an already impressive fleet of cinemas in Egypt, with the opening coming at perfect time, as the yearly slate of Eid films arrive. Starting from the first day of Eid (Wednesday 6th of July) the cinema will be screening  Gaheem Fel Hend, Asal Abya, Barty Fih 7arty and one of this year’s most anticipated Egyptian films, Min 30 Sana, starring Ahmed El Sakka, Mona Zaki and Noor.
