While it is yet to see a wide release, the horror-thriller film Hereditary (from director Ari Aster) has already sent chills of unsettling creepiness down the spines of its viewers. Indeed, the film was able to horrify those who attended  its first screening, at the Sundance Film Festival. The film stars Toni Collette as Annie Graham; Gabriel Byrne as Steve Graham; Alex Wolff as Peter Graham; Milly Shapiro as Charlie Graham; and, Ann Dowd as Joan.

According to The Independent, the film’s synopsis reads as follows: “When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter’s family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited.”

As reported by Thrillist, “the screams in the theater were almost as frightening as what was on screen. The film was consequently described as “the most insane horror movie in years” by USA Today. As such, the film seems to have a lot to offer, for film enthusiasts in general, and for horror fans in particular. If the film receives that same reaction when screened to the general public, then Hereditary could potentially become the single most horrifying and memorable horror film of the year.

If you are a fan of the horror genre, you can look forward to this (potentially nightmarish) film being released worldwide on June 8th of this year.
