Do you ever walk into a movie based on its trailer and then end up realising it is completely not what you’d expected? We are here to make sure this never happens to you again. Here is this week’s list of new releases with a bit of insight on what to expect from each movie.

Lassie Come Home

The classic movie that gets us all sobbing because whenever a dog is involved, things seem a bit too personal for us. This movie has made generations bawl their eyes out, waiting to see if Lassie would get home safely, and it is time for 2022 to have its version of it. If you are not familiar with the famous story, let us introduce you to Lassie. Florian, Lassie’s owner, has an inseparable bond with his dog but is forced to send him away after his father losses his job. Now, the heartbreaking part; Lassie gets mistreated and sets on on a solo journey to be reunited with Florian. We highly recommend buying a few packs of Kleenex for your tears before entering the theatre.

C’mon C’mon

Another emotionally loaded masterpiece for this week with none other than Joaquin Phoenix. Again, Joaquin dazzles us with another outstanding performance in this movie that forces you to reflect on your own journey in life. It tells the story of a radio journalist called in by his sister to take care of his nephew. Both of them travel across the US, interviewing kids and learning the true meaning of life. Did we mention that you get an extra element of nostalgia as the whole thing is shot in black and white?

My Son

If you are a fan of giving yourself the heebie-jeebies, then this one is for you. This thriller narrates the story of a young boy who goes missing from a campsite. His parents (James McAvoy & Claire Foy) race with time to find him before it is too late, but they soon realise that he has been kidnapped. The struggles and the terror the family go through to find him will trigger all your maternal instincts and send shivers down your spine.

Raging Fire

You’ll need a large bucket of popcorn to munch on because the exuberance you are about to experience is like no other. If you have never watched a Chinese action movie before, you are up for a fun ride. After succeeding in many dangerous missions, policeman Bong is faced with yet another challenge when his protégé is set to take revenge. The scenes are all packed with suspense, and every minute of the movie will fill you with excitement.
