A way of giving a chance to those who are born with disabilities is through The Special Olympics. The Special Olympics gives individuals with intellectual disabilities, who are often marginalised by society, an opportunity to triumph, something to train for, and something to aspire to.

The point of the competition is to be the best you can, to work awesomely hard, while striving for excellence. The mission is to provide athletic competitions in various Olympic sports for both adults and children, awarding individuals with opportunities to demonstrate their physical fitness, share joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts and skills.

This year’s 2019 Special Olympics World Games is being held in Abu Dhabi, UAE, for the very first time in the MENA region since it was founded 50 years ago. The competition started on the 14th of March and will run until the 21st.  Egypt has been holding a training camp for the 100 athletes who are currently competing in 14, out of a total of 24 sports. The Egyptian team will be competing against 7,500 athletes from 190+ countries. You can keep yourself updated with all the happenings on this website; you can also cheer on our athletes using the hashtag #MeetTheDetermined.

We warmly wish the Egyptian delegation the best of luck and hope they accumulate lots of medals throughout the competition, bringing back pride and honour to both their society and families.
