As much as no one wants to admit it, the new year started on a real high and was quickly crushed by Omicron. Many Cairenes are facing the fallout from partying and travelling with large groups of people, and because nothing lasts forever, the fun has to end somewhere. If you’re among the unlucky ones who are starting their year with a case of Covid, you’re not alone. We’ve prepared for you a list that will both take you down memory lane to the first quarantine and will have you break the cycle of boredom if you’re spending time completely alone.

Tiktok

While it’s not an activity, it’s become more of a tradition where you find yourself scrolling through Tiktok for hours on end. Tiktok was the saviour back in quarantine 2020, and whether people were harmlessly watching Tiktoks or making them, it kept them company and gave them something to look forward to throughout their day. It is a great way to kill time without much effort, especially if you’re spending the days in your room. This one could be your little secret; no one needs to know.

Painting

You don’t need to be Bob Ross for this one, but you’ll need to follow one of his videos if you want to learn a bit of skill. Doing things manually with your hands has its own therapeutic remedies helping you relax and feel more in control. Painting is a great way to release stress by gliding your brush across the canvas and feeling the colours come together into a single painting. It is a rewarding feeling, even if it turns out to be a complete mess. It’s worth a try; you might discover you’re an artist after all!

Reading

This isn’t everyone’s cup of tea; however, reading can truly transform your quarantine experience to a maximum. Whether you’re going to search for dusty old books that you’ve left for your next read, or you’re a new bookworm that’ll make its first purchase, grab a genre that you like and start reading. It’s addictive; once you get through the first few chapters, you will be hooked. Watching movies is all fun and games, but how about you try reading since you don’t want your brain to go numb as well. I’m talking to you, taste and smell.

Talk to yourself! Bear with us for a bit on this one. You’re alone, in your room, and probably imagining yourself in many scenarios, all of which include going out. You want to vent, you want to talk to someone, but you can’t see people, so our advice is to talk to yourself. If you have the ear and voice for it, record yourself talking into your phone or your laptop. You can talk about anything: your day, your experience in quarantine, or anything else, and before you know it, you can be on your way to starting your very first podcast! Need we mention the therapeutic process of talking?

Sleeping

What better time to fix your sleep schedule and get some extra snooze hours in your day than in quarantine? We understand the hustle culture where you work over eight hours a day and go back home dreaming of your bed. Guess what? You don’t have to worry about that for now. If you’re working from home, all you have to do is wake up, get your coffee and grind, rest up, and get that beauty sleep!

And seriously, clean your room!
