Egypt has delivered on its promise to the IRONMAN community by hosting an immaculate first-ever IRONMAN 70.3 Egypt race in Sahl Hasheesh on November 19th, 2021, under the auspices of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Transport, powered by Hassan Allam Properties.

The event was a resounding success, matching the most renowned IRONMAN events worldwide and offered 45 qualifying slots for the 2022 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship.

Ever since it decided to take on this incredible feat, Egypt spared no expense or effort, resulting in the complete revamping of the bike course with a cost exceeding 170 million EGP. All teams pulled together to ensure a safe and well-organised race week for all those involved, which is no small achievement, especially in the time of Covid-19.

During the official press conference, Mr Ashraf Sobhy expressed great enthusiasm for the event, citing the never-ending governmental efforts to promote sports for healthier Egyptians, which align with the goals of the 100 Million Health initiative set forth by the government. Mr Sobhy also wished all participating athletes success.

Red Sea Governor, Major General Amr Hanafi, also shared his excitement for the event, highlighting that after the ongoing road infrastructural revolution in recent years, Egypt is now ready to take on many other international sports events, even a full IRONMAN! The sky is the only limit here.

IRONMAN 70.3 Egypt and the lively Sahl Hasheesh backdrop accommodated more than 1,500 athletes from more than 70 different countries worldwide and joined the fold of more than 100 cities organising IRONMAN each year.

What made Sahl Hasheesh the perfect city to host this event is its flat waters, which were all but made for the 1.9 km swimming portion of the race, as well as the rolling cycling course for the 90 km bike section and the scenic 21.1km running route by the Red Sea.

Of course, all of these efforts were multiplied by the trusted tally of sponsors who joined the fold: Arab African International Bank, Mercedes Benz, British Petroleum, Oriental Weavers, Eva Pharma, Fresh, Coca Cola, Dasani, Vezeeta, Lytespeed, Bruz, Gig Egypt, Elios, Nile Fm, Nogoum FM, DHL, Technogym, Raya Auto, TikTok, Cairo 360, Cairogossip, IPC Physical Therapy Clinic, Go Bus & Go Mini, and On Sports.
