Fast food is
this reviewer’s favourite comfort food. There is nothing like a well-cooked,
juicy burger and a packet of French fries to lift your spirits and set your
mind at ease.

On an
extremely hot summer day, this reviewer headed to Burger King’s branch in
Tivoli Dome, Heliopolis. The fast food joint is small, with few tables located
outside for customers to enjoy the weather. In an attempt to avoid the
scorching heat though, we opted for an indoor table.

With flies
roaming around the place, we were very sceptical about the place’s commitment
to hygiene. We also found food crumbs on our table, but we knew that at a fast
food restaurant, low hygiene comes with the territory.

With a very
limited menu to choose from, this reviewer ordered the chicken whopper (29LE).
Served with a small packet of French fries and a soft drink of your choice, the
sandwich consists of a basic chicken slice topped with lettuce, tomatoes and
onion and is smothered with mayonnaise. You can also add a slice of cheddar
cheese for an extra 2LE. For an additional 3.50LE, you can trade the fries for
onion rings.

We also
tried the chicken royale (29LE): a basic chicken sandwich with lettuce,
tomatoes, onion and mayonnaise. Taste-wise, Burger King’s sandwiches don’t
differ much from what you might prepare at home; they are fresh yet bland and
unhealthy. You can also pay an additional 3LE for the medium-sized fries and
soft drink or 4LE for the large combo.

You can also
order from a variety of beef sandwiches, including the whopper sandwich (24LE),
mushroom and Swiss xxl (35LE), and barbecue double cheese burger (29LE). The menu
also features a single fish sandwich: fish royale (29LE) and five pieces of
chicken tenders (11LE).

If you are
diet-conscious and don’t want to load up on calories, you can order chicken
salad (15.50LE), or garden salad (14.50LE). As for
dessert, you can order the summer-friendly sundae (6LE), or you can have an
apple pie (6LE).

Although Burger
King might not be your first choice when the craving for burgers kicks in, it’s
still worth a try.
