Rania’s Corner: Eclectic Fusion of Home and Fashion in Cairo

With the increasing
need for that exclusive personalisation of your shopping experience in Cairo,
it’s no wonder that concept boutiques are a growing business in the city.
Literally a corner inside Elements on Dokki’s Amman Square, Rania’s Corner is a
truly personal experience, holding a full range of products from clothes to
household accessories, books and furniture.

The shop’s fashion
collection is diverse, with only a few items of each piece in stock; this is
the kind of shop to go to if you’re looking for a special little something to
spruce up an ordinary outfit.

Their clothing collection of funky jackets, vests and accessories includes items by brands like Ivan Grundahl, Mike Gonzalez, Friends with Benefits, Clark Sabbat, House
Doctor, Cushnie et Ochs, Maggie Ward, and Artists and Revolutionaries.

Silver and
gold-plated jewellery by local and international designers is also available,
with prices ranging from 1500LE to 3500LE. On the other end of the spectrum, bracelets by Domingo Ayala make a colourful complement to beachwear and
range between 100LE and 300LE.

Patchwork sofas and
cushions, dressers, TV units, light fixtures and multi-function storage
cupboards are functionally displayed around the shop. Wool pouffes designed by
Donna Wilson range between 3000LE and 6500LE for indoor and outdoor use. Also,
for pop culture enthusiasts, JC de Castelbajac’s colourful tableware, chairs (9700LE
to 11,500LE) and table (18,500LE) make a perfect centrepiece for a creative
office / work space.

Paintings and
photographs by regional and local artists are displayed, which mostly include
an array of modern pop art. Most notable is a reproduction of Mr. Brainwash’s Life
is Beautiful
with Charlie Chaplin. Paintings range between 8000LE and 25,000LE
while photographs lie in the range of 500LE to 8000LE.

The biggest advantage
of shopping at Rania’s Corner is that since they only stock a few pieces of
each item, you’re not likely to find that sofa/cushion/dress anywhere else in
Cairo, making each unique item personal to you. And since the stock is so
varied, with everything from books to candles and accessories to tableware,
it’s a lot like getting the best picks of a globetrotter’s treks.

Rania’s Corner also
holds monthly events, so check their Facebook group for regular updates or
check their soon-to-be-launched website.

360 Tip

You won’t just bump into Rania's Corner on a casual stroll; so go to Elements on Amman Square and ask inside.

Best Bit

A World War II jet engine hollowed out into a bar/console.

Worst Bit

Although they carry products for a large range of prices, you’re likely to fall in love with a few items that you might not be able to afford; so try not to be too disappointed.
