Terranova: More Quantity than Quality in Maadi City Centre
It’s a new season and clothing shops around the city are dressing up their mannequins to match the coming colder months. If you’re looking for basic sweaters, long sleeved t-shirts and other warm apparel, Terranova could possibly satisfy your needs.

We were tempted into their Maadi City Centre branch because of the tables laid out with ‘new collection’ signs above them. Large tables were piled high with all sorts of sweaters varying in colour and cuts. Although obviously not the highest quality of fabric, we ventured further to see what we could find.

Towards the back of the shop, a rotating rack carries numerous long sleeved t-shirts with an overhead sign claiming that all beneath items cost 99LE. Here, and among other racks throughout the space, you can find three quarter sleeved t-shirts, long sleeved ones with wide necks as well as the choice of striped long sleeved ones. There are also long shirts (199LE) available in beige, black and magenta.

You can find skinny jeans (239LE), denim skirts and a whole lot of kitschy t-shirts and tops with embellishments such as the words ‘only one’ in glitter. What is more browse-worthy on the other hand are the tables topped up with all forms of sweaters.

Between 139LE-169LE, there’s a wide choice of knitted sweaters in all sorts of colours and shapes; there are V-necked ones, high-neck ones, some with a hood, some solid coloured and some with different coloured stripes. However, the fabric is not the softest and felt like it might have some polyester in the mix. On the other hand, there were also a choice of softer fabric and slimmer fit sweaters in neutral colours, as well as button up cardigans.

Terranova are also carrying a collection of corduroy trousers, available in colours such as black, beige, grey and dark red, as part of the ‘all for 169LE’ tables.

Apart from the basic everyday sweaters they carry in copious amounts, there are a few standout items as well. Aztec patterned leggings (99LE) could be a fun wear, though again, their material is not great. A cargo winter jacket with fluffy lining goes for 549LE, while chequered trousers with suede patches that are similar to horse riding breeches go for 279LE. There is also a nice selection of buttonless and zip-less cardigans with tribal patterns (279LE), which were softer to the touch and overall cosier to wear.

Terranova also has an accessories section that includes a choice of flowery cotton scarves (99LE) in autumn colours, as well as a range of handbags, where an 80s style sports bag goes for 189LE and a ‘leather’ one for about 199LE.

The collection is practical, with something for everyone easily available. Sadly though, the quality doesn’t match the utility of their items, but if you’re prepared for this shortcoming, then shopping at Terranova may well yield some good finds.

360 Tip

It's best to stick to their cotton items.

Best Bit

Nice variety of casual sweaters.

Worst Bit

The quality you're getting for the prices.
