Play N Trade: U.S Video Game Shop at Citystars

Gaming culture in Egypt is huge, but there still seems to be lack of shops in Cairo where gamers can feed their addiction. Located on the new fifth floor in Cairo shopping centre, Citystars, Play N Trade is a welcome option to the more overly-priced Virgin Megastore and is stocked with titles from all the new video games consoles.

Each section is clearly marked in regards to which console the games are created for. The Nintendo section is hidden away at the back of the shop and stocks games for the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Wii, and Nintendo WiiU. The section also carries Nintendo DS Lites (800LE), Nintendo 3DS (1999LE), cases, and travel packs as well as a nostalgic N64 controller.

Unfortunately, those interested in Nintendo Wii and WiiU are first required to pre-order the games on display as the store does not stock the physical copies of the CDs. The games available to purchase are, in traditional Nintendo fashion, advertised for children or families and consist of Spectrobes, The Smurfs 2 and Mario Strikers Charged among few others.

Prices for PS3 games range from 89LE to 399LE and include plenty of action/adventure games such as Call of Duty MW3, Assassins Creed III, Bioshock, Dark Souls and Boarderlands.  An entire shelf of the PS3 best sellers can also be found and includes more mainstream titles such as the Lego franchises (349LE). Typically, the games stocked are more or less the same for both PS3 and Xbox with the exception of Halo 4.

A couple of islands placed in the middle of the shop are reserved for games that are only available for pre-ordering and are mostly the newer titles such as Call of Duty Ghosts, FIFA 14 (575LE), Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Diablo III, Battlefield 4, PES 2014, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, and Grand Theft Auto V. Play N Trade offer interesting promotional items with the order of any of these games like a pair of dog tags with every CoD Ghosts purchase or a FIFA water bottle when ordering FIFA 14.

A small wall is dedicated to the PSP and PS Vita with games such as Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter vs. Tekken, Assassin’s Creed Liberation, and Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified.

Unfortunately, unlike Play N Trade shops in the US, the branch in Citystars doesn’t offer services such as trade-ins, rentals, and console repairs.

Although we weren’t too impressed with the strictly mainstream selection of games and consoles, Play N Trade more than makes up for it with incredible prices and a very helpful staff who are more than willing to accommodate any video game needs you may have.

360 Tip

Play N Trade have another branch in Mall of Arabia.

Best Bit

Prices are reasonable and their selection will please most casual gamers.

Worst Bit

Play N Trade do not stock games for older consoles - nor do they have any PC titles.
