The Definitive Guide to Living in the Capital , Cairo , Egypt

Now in its third year, we are proud and excited to announce the 2016 edition of the Cairo 360 Editors’ Choice Awards (ECA); an endeavour launched to recognise the best that Egypt’s capital has to offer in everything from dining, nightlife and hospitality, to arts & culture, health & fitness and shopping.

As the definitive guide to living in the capital, Cairo 360 has sought to discover and uncover everything there is to see and do in what is one of the most culturally colourful cities in the world and the Editors’ Choice Awards intends to salute the best venues in Cairo – the ones that make living here more interesting, more engaging and offer a unique experience and service.

Since its founding in March 2010, Cairo 360 has amassed over 5000 reviews and articles covering life in Cairo and in sifting and shuffling through thousands and thousands of venues, only a select number have been deemed as truly being the best.

The winners are chosen based not only on reviews, but on an equally significant series of debates and discussions between Cairo 360 editors and staff, with factors such as consistency and longevity, alongside value-for-money and quality of product/service taken into account. 

It’s by no means an easy task and the selection process becomes more difficult by the year, as the city continues to grow and evolve. The last 12 months, for example, has seen plenty of newcomers on and already eclectic restaurant and café scene, while nightlife continues to develop despite tricky circumstances.

In addition, the local arts and culture scene continues to excel; galleries rarely pass a day with empty walls, the live music circuit is on the rise and emerging artists are finding a bigger platform. It’s something that has fed into the shopping scene, too; local retailers and brands continue to benefit from what seems like a renaissance of the craftsman, resulting in an increased quality and creativity at the base of the idea of ‘buying local’, while the world's biggest brands continue to find a home in Egypt.

Five years on since its founding, Cairo 360 continues to be a leader in independent reviews and an inclusive guide, seeking to show the good, the bad and the peculiar across Cairo – a mission that has never been more exciting.
