Hello Cairo!

Weekends have become a precarious time of the week in the city. So far, this one seems to be calm(ish), making it slightly more tempting to let loose and trudge on through the city that truly never sleeps.

Thursday starts with a weekly offering of House Arrest at O Bar; this week, the music is provided by Ali Goede, Hisham Zahran and In2deep. Tamarai hosts another edition of 4 The Love of House and DJ Feedo takes over the decks at Otium for R&B Night, while Cairo Jazz Club welcomes Infinity & Deja’vu to its stage.

More music ensues at Jazz Mate with Hungarian singer Sofia Balogh and Ahmed Harfoush gives a smooth jazz performance at Saigon Restaurant & Lounge, while popular Egyptian pop star, Mohamed Adaweya, takes to the stage at El Sawy Culturewheel. Elsewhere, Y Lounge are going all out with El Mouled; a night that promises shaabi music's best in Oka and Ortega, as well as belly dancers and tannoura performances.

For a more cultural evening, head to Hanager at Cairo Opera House for ‘Azazeel’, which sees the Melephronia Theatre Company perform an adaptation of Youssef Zidan’s award-winning novel.

The increasingly popular Bassem Youssef can be found at AUC New Cairo in a debate with Nageh Ibrahim about political satire, while Beirut hosts Azin Feizabadi, who introduces his upcoming exhibition with a lecture titled 'Poetics, Politics & Love Letters'. Also at Beirut, Lebanese-based artist, Joe Namy, launches new exhibition, '(a(version)s)'.

Start your Friday with a bang with the Colour Festival at International Park or El Sawy Culturewheel's AfriCairo celebrations, which see performances by Ashara Gharby as well as Nigerian band, Sunshine. Cairo’s favourite open mic night is back, with Mashrou3 El Mareekh taking place at Darb 1718.

Get your freak on at Amici Zamalek for Freaky Friday with DJ Simonn at the decks or get experimental with VJ Um Amel at 100 Copies Music Space who promises a feast for the senses with a visual and musical performance.

For some good old Friday night partying, head to Tamarai for Adults Only – the older you are the better – or take advantage of being a female at Cairo White Club’s Ladies’ Night. Elsewhere, DJ Feedo and DJ Hook are back for another R&V night at O Bar.

It’s almost Valentine’s Day and this Saturday, Cairo Flea Market brings you a Valentine’s Day Special at Designopolis, giving you the chance to pick up something unique for your loved one. Zamalek's Imperial Boat is also getting in on the act, with the B7bk Ya Balady Valentine Bazaar.

Nūn Center continues to preach healthy eating via another of their Farmer’s Market taking place during the day and for all you fashionistas out there, Cairo’s Fashion Nights 2nd Edition has finally returned, taking place at First Mall.

If you haven’t burnt all your energy out, head to Nile Maxim for Just Muzik: Brunch & Music which will start nice and early. The Egyptian Project: Ya Amar Tour continues this evening at Cairo Jazz Club for a performance that mixes French electro and Egyptian folklore, while Massar Egbari will take to the stage at El Sawy Culturewheel for a special album launch concert. More local talent is on show, as Al Hezb El Comedy take over Bikya Maadi for an evening of giggles.

Now don’t forget, the city is brimming with art and Ahmed Kassim's newly opened exhibition at Safar Khan, ‘Chaotic Order’ is one to look out for. Elsewhere, renowned Egyptian artist, Georges Bahgoury, continues to garner acclaim with ‘Dialogue of Mind & Soul’ at Al Masar Gallery.
